Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy

Format: Album
Release Date: 24th Nov 2008
Label: Geffen
Rating:

After what, 17 years, Guns N' Roses mythological album Chinese Democracy actually hits the stores!? I never thought I would see the day (incidently just like Dr Pepper who promised everyone in America a free can if it actually came out this year)! Surely an album that has been 17 years in the making must have been created to sheer perfection?

The truth is this baby has popped out as some ugly freak mutant of an album. For one, the only actual original member in the lineup is the egotistic aging squarking parrot of a man that is Axl Rose. The rest of the band are a bunch of nobodies. This album fails on epic proportions at just about every angle. The production is thin, the guitars sound ugly and piercing and the vocals, oh the vocals, manage to kill every song. That's if the crappy guitar riffs attached don't do it first of course. The songs not only sound dated and hold absolutely no relevance to the current musical climate, but they wouldn't have even sounded fresh back in the nineties. Some songs sound like even the worst Marilyn Manson songs, some songs you wouldn't even recognise as being Guns N' Roses, nor even a poor Guns N' Roses imitator. Most fall under the radar of the most painful, tired and generic hard rock songs you will ever hear since, well, the last Guns N' Roses album, whilst the only songs that really standout are the ones that are the most terrible. Even for the most patient, hopeful and dedicated fans of Guns N' Roses, Chinese Democracy will only reveal that they have only been prodding at its rotting carcass all these years.

Aside from perhaps being the worst album ever made, Chinese Democracy WILL still go down as a memorable album just out of it's fascinating back story. In ten years time people will ask "where were you when you finally got to listen to Chinese Democracy?" Of course most will just reply "I was the one sobbing and vomitting in the corner" or "I was trying to rip off my own ears just so I would never have to hear anything so terrible ever again!" The saddest thing is this album will probably fly off the shelf, and the sadder thing is most people will not even want to listen to it a second time through. If you value your sanity you wont even listen to it once, it's just not worth it, even out of morbid curiosity. Epic fail!

I'm with you man, all the way. Wouldn't it be great if we could get an underground grassroots movement to go onto all the big sites like Amazon.com, B&N, etc. etc. and just trash the living shit out of this record? I mean the lowest reviews coming in in droves, hopefully driving potential sheep who would buy this record elsewhere during the recession and put that squawking parrot out of his misery?
