Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - Keep Singing Out

Format: Single
Release Date: 12th May 2008
Label: Atlantic
Rating:

To judge Sam Duckworth on his strength of character, ambition and drive would be easy, 5/5, job done. He has paid the dues and comes to his second album with a great weight of expectation, the mantle of 'the new Billy Bragg' held heavy on his back.

The album 'Searching For The Hows And Whys' received mixed praise and I'm sure the same will be said of 'Keep Singing Out' the second single to be taken from it. Nitin Sawhney has added a great deal to the electronic side of Sams work, this track has an amazingly soft yet emboldening beat running through it like the river under rowboat. The man up top with the oars though only seems to be pulling at half strength. The track doesn't sustain its great lyrics with enough vocal nuance or engaging melody, leaving the song missing a vital sense of urgency and conviction.

This is a strange choice for a second single and doesn't do enough, although being a fairly solid track, to convince others to buy the whole album.
