Mika - Grace Kelly

Format: Single
Release Date: 8th Jan 2007
Label: Bella Union
Rating:

What is this? Is it Glam rock, is it pop, is it... What is it!

Is it Freddie Mercury rising from the grave, is it the Scissor Sisters releasing ANOTHER single? Well no its neither, but it could be worse..

What we have in "Grace Kelly" by Mika is fairly good pop, but essentially it is a song that could have been done better by either of the aforementioned bands. Perhaps if I was drunk in a club and this came on, I might sing along, then again I might walk out, its one of those songs that divides opinion down the middle.

Its twee and its bouncy and it has a good chorus. Mika has been through the checklist of pop and hit each tick box with a finely thrown dart. Pop is great when done right and essentially this song has it right, however the vacuous nature of the lyrics and the clinical production sees this into the box marked " just too pop for further listening".

If you like your pop to be big, bold and slightly camp, you will absolutely love this. If you don't then proceed with caution..
