Crimes Of The Future - Screen Villains

Format: Single
Release Date: 12th May 2008
Label: Zap Systems
Rating:

Crimes Of The Future are one of the many 'post-punk' bands that currently swamp venues up and down the UK. With the backing of Zap System Records (Dada Swing, Die!, Die!, Die!, Smatka etc) the band are starting to build a bit of a buzz around themselves.

With this new single the band combine a rough guitar sound, off-kilter rhythms and the heavy scent of Vaudeville, taking them into a little niche of their own, very slightly off the beaten track. At times the darker and elements of the track seem a little forced, with singer Sally Moriarty's vocals straying dangerously closer to 'drama school halloween show' than the dark Victorian siren sound that works so well for the most part.

At 4mins 10 seconds this track slightly outstays its welcome, but over that time it does enough to suggest that there is a lot more to come from this band.
