The Steeples new single Britney’s Tears is light and cheery indie pop that has a strong ear for melody and a big smile inducing chorus. Originality is not on the cards here, but really that’s not the point of these tracks. Like the Kooks and The Fratellis, these songs are for Saturday night at the disco, grooving your pants off with a few words of the chorus dancing from your vocal chords. Britney’s Tears is a song that reminds you of the first few drinks of a good party, where the drink is flowing but no-ones wasted and the night could last forever. Whilst a lot of indie bands look to be “songwriters” and “cigarette smoking cool dudes”, The Steeples just make music for the love of a good tune and it really shows on this fantastic little single.
