What Would Jesus Drive

Tim and Amy illuminate on Ten Pin Bowling, the Jaws theme and moving to Mexico

What motivates you to make music?
Tim - The thought of a boring/normal life inspires us to get up and do something different. Amy – Money. 

What three aspects or parts of your latest release (single or album) are you most proud of?
Tim - It’s quite short. We swear a bit. Side 2 is completely blank. Amy – I feel quite proud that we did it all ourselves at home.

If time and money were no issue, how long do you think it would take you to make the perfect album?
Tim – By who’s standards? There’s no such thing. But if there was, probably not long. Amy – One year 7 days 4 hours and 3 minutes. Roughly.

What do you enjoy doing away from music?
Tim - Ten pin bowling. Watching UFC. Sleeping. Amy – Working out, training for Ninja Warrior

Which song or piece of music other than your own draws the strongest emotional response from you?
Amy – The Jaws theme! I brick it.

Outside of recording and playing music, which part of the musician’s life do you find the most dull?
Amy – Anything to do with making music is great. Everything else in life is dull by comparison. Making music is a way of avoiding the dull parts.

Which instrument do you wish you could play and why?
Tim - I wish Amy could play the harmonica like she said she could just before I bought her one. Amy – It cost you a fiver tight arse! I wish I could play something weird looking like a harp or bagpipes.

Apart from music are there any other art forms you relate to?
Tim - Mime.

What role do you believe music plays in the world and how do you help to fulfill it?
Tim – Music has a thousand roles in the world doesn’t it? It entertains people, it gives people an escape from the real world, it helps bring people together, loads of things. I hope we manage to fulfill some of them, but if we do it’s probably by accident. I think ultimately we just make music because music is what we do. Amy – This is a really fucking deep question, and I don’t think we see music in that way. Music is all I have ever done but even I don’t take it that seriously.

With the rise of the internet fans are able to become closer to and know more about their artists. Do you think this is a positive or negative development?
Amy – A bit of both really. Tim – I suppose it’s good when you like a band to be able to obsess about them without having to camp outside their house.

How do you think music will be distributed, exchanged or sold in 5 years time?
Tim - Don’t know… maybe by thought. Actually I doubt things will move on too much from where they are now. Vinyl will still have a place but everything will be done digitally on the internet.

If you could rename your band, what would it be?
Tim - Don’t date robots!! Prefer that to What Would Jesus Drive but I suppose we’re stuck now.

Looking back on the last century, which decade had the best music?
Tim – I like the 60s cos of the Beatles, the 70s cos of punk and Tiger Feet by Mudd, and the Eighties cos of New Romantics and The Smiths. So its close between those 3 but I think for me right now the 80s gets the nod.

In 10 years time, what will you be doing?
Tim – We’ll probably still be arguing about stupid shit. Either that or Amy will already have killed me. I’ll be in the ground and she’ll be in prison or in Mexico. Amy – I’ll be on my honeymoon with my 18 year-old third husband throwing bananas at the paparazzi.

Please leave us with your favourite lyric, line of poetry, quote or phrase.
Tim – As a quote I am quite fond of the bit in Starship Troopers where Michael Ironside turns round slowly and says “They sucked his brains out!”. Amy – “That’s a tasty burger!!” or “I love lamp”.
