A night out a Brixton's Plan B...

So we were invited to pay a visit to Plan B in Brixton. Those of you who live in London will know that there are a lot of bars/pubs/clubs/venues that host all types of DJs playing all kinds of music. Most of the time you won’t have a clue who the DJ is and probably won’t care much for the music they’re playing. On the other hand, you’ll occasionally stumble upon a gem. A club that hosts DJs who are at the top of their game, playing music that is sure to make that night out with the lads a great deal more enjoyable. Plan B is one of those clubs.

We rocked up at Plan B on a Friday night, “Fidgit” night to those in the know. FIDGIT, the long running block party, has long since been the staple of every hip-hop head’s Friday night, and the event always manages to draw in the big names. Headliners in the past have included: Mark Ronson, Ca$h Money and The Nextmen to name a few who spin a mix of solid funk, disco, soul and underground boom bap bangers.

This March was no exception to Fidgit’s big name draw. Along with resident DJ’s: J Bold, Tuff Love, Spin Doctor, Nippa and Benjamin Money, Maxi Jazz (of Faithless fame), A Skillz, Mr Thing, Norman Jay and DJ Yoda all made an appearance. The last time Yoda played, people were queuing for a mile and had to be turned away.

Despite not staying til the end, the venue made a lasting impression. With a spacious dancefloor and plenty of seating for when the legs need a rest, this is a bonafide party venue. The crowd were a mix of beautiful women and guys looking for a good night rather than a good fight. The only reservations are the bar prices but given the location and the quality of the bar this didn’t come as a surprise.

Reviewing a venue is a tricky thing to do (so don’t expect it to happen too often around here!). If we were to analogize though, Plan B is the “DJ Shadow” of London, leaving the rag tag “Peaches Geldof” show off venues trailing in its wake. Fidgit is a fantastic night and if you want your Friday to be filled with fresh and original dance music, it is the only place to go… Highly Recommended!
